SEXUAL PREDATOR/SEXUAL OFFENDER BAN IN TWIN LAKES DOES NOT PASS
Even after two extensions to the 2011 Annual Meeting, a door-to-door campaign and a special mailing, the HOA was not able to collect enough votes/proxies to pass the much needed Sexual Predator/Sexual Offender Ban that would have provided the HOA with legal remedies to prevent sexual offenders from owning or renting in Twin Lakes. In the end, we came up 35 votes short of the 306 affirmative votes we would have needed to amend our governing documents ( as a note, there were 18 votes against the ban). Disappointingly, there were 170 residents who did not bother voting at all on this important issue (even after the numerous attempts by the Board to collect their votes).
This is why were also trying to pass an amendment to the governing documents to lower the required votes for amending our governing documents from a 2/3 affirmative (306 votes) to a simple majority of 50%+1 (231 votes). Obviously, this amendment did not pass either and we are in the same position of not being able to make important changes to our documents when necessary.
So what does this mean, simply that the Twin Lakes HOA can take no legal action to prevent convicted and registered sexual predators and sexual offenders from renting or buying a home in Twin Lakes. For those of you who voted against this amendment or didn't bother voting at all because you thought it couldn't happen here, it is suggested you visit and search the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office website; you will find this issue is a lot closer than you think.
We can always revisit this amendment in the future and attempt to pass it again but without more involvement and participation by the community, it will once again be doomed to fail.

WARNING - COYOTES SPOTTED IN TWIN LAKES
We have received reports of a potential pack of coyotes in and around Twin Lakes. They had previously been spotted in River Hills and it appears they may now be prowling in Twin Lakes. The following link to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website provides information regarding dealing with coyotes in urban settings. In short, don't let your animals roam free and use caution when walking with small pets in the evening and morning.
